This incident was initially reported by an environmental protest group who were highly critical of the conflicts between the natives and a local group of cattle ranchers. After one particular encounter, 2 surviving ranchers returned, claiming that had been assailed in the jungle by the walking dead. Although their claims were dismissed, the Brazilian government deployed 3 army brigades to the town of Maricela. Officially, the incident was reported as a native uprising that found no trace of the undead. Unofficially, witnesses reported the military moving into the jungle towards a nearby native village, killing everything in sight, living or dead. In a strange twist of fate, the protest group also denied the existence of zombies, claiming the "uprising" was an excuse to subjugate the native population. However, a record leaked by a Brazilian ordnance officer shows the government requisitioned almost every available flamethrower in the country. All were returned with empty tanks.
