Columbus chased by 2 zombies

Mad Zombie Disease is a fast-acting contagion, mentioned in Zombieland and is the source of all the zombies within that universe.

Origins[]

According to Columbus, Mad Zombie Disease is a mutated strain of Mad Cow Disease, targeting humans specifically. It is said that patient zero had taken a bite out of a contaminated burger, causing his or her infection and leading to the outbreak and eventual apocalypse.

Biology[]

Mad Zombie Disease is fast-acting, typically spread from person to person through bites and likely contact with infected bodily fluids. Once being bitten, there is little to no chance for survival. Once infected, individuals had raging high fevers, black blood, swollen brain, as well as a desire to feed on the flesh of uninfected individuals. Infected individuals can spread with virus through 3 ways however, with the most common being biting uninfected individuals. The second being scratched and the final being exposure to infected fluids. Infection typically varied in terms of speed, with bites being the fastest way of turning one into a zombie, while ingesting contaminated food took a bit longer. Compared to most zombies, who are rotting and undead beings, zombies infected with this virus possessed intact bodies, with no signs of either rotting flesh or physical decay whatsoever, which likely is what enables them to run, so long as no part of their limbs are damaged. The brain is essentially still active, however functions on the most basic of levels compared to an uninfected individual. Much like other zombies, they can typically take multiple hits to the body, however headshots are the most ideal to dispatch infected, even if they are the special variants.

Like typical zombies and regardless of their variant, those infected with this virus also have better hearing, allowing them to find prey who are typically loud. Examples of this was when Tallahassee used a banjo in a grocery store to lure out any zombies nearby. Another example being when the crew attempted to board an RV and Madison accidentally set off the alarm for it, alerting several zombies. These zombies also don't seem to be able to cross fire, as demonstrated by the horde of T-800s that ran into Babylon, which showed them trapped behind a wall of fire before the detonation of the biodiesel.

Variants[]

6 years following the virus' rampage on the populace, Mad Zombie Disease began to evolve, creating a variety of newer and more dangerous zombies.

  • Homers: The dumbest of all zombies, Homers get their name off of the character Homer Simpson. Though they can be a threat, they are clearly the most inferior variant and easily diverted and also a great source of entertainment in a world without YouTube.
  • Hawking: With every Homer, there is always a Hawking, named after Dr. Stephen Hawking. Hawkings are easily the smartest of zombies, which typically learn fast and overcome obstacles that get in the way of their meal. While much more higher function, a Hawking lacks any kind of the more advanced brain functions that uninfected individuals possess. While intelligent, they are nowhere near as intelligent as the T-800s.
  • Ninja: A cunning and stealthy variant, ninjas are typically not seen before they strike. Ninjas are the quickest and silent of the zombies. When they strike, the only thing heard are the screams made by those who are attacked by them.
  • T-800: The most durable and dangerous of them all, the T-800 is named after the Skynet Series 800 model of the same name from the Terminator franchise. They are also referred to as Bolts by Albuquerque and Flagstaff. These zombies are capable of dodging gunfire, as well as taking multiple hits to the body, even after being hit with the double-tap, as well as being hit by a pick up truck. Once they set their eyes on a target however, they will not stop until either their target is dead or they are killed. Despite everything however, T-800s can be killed, typically by smashing the skull in with any kind of weapon.
