Dead Reckoning is a heavily armored transport used by the scavengers in the film Land of the Dead. It was designed by Riley Denbo, but financed by Fiddler's Green tyrannical ruler Paul Kaufman.
Land of the Dead (2005)[]
Dead Reckoning was constructed sometime following the establishment of Fiddler's Green, designed by Riley Denbo and financed by the city's tyrannical leader, Paul Kaufman. The truck served scavenger teams which went outside the city walls, into infected zones to obtain essentials for the city to continue thriving. The truck would serve as a platform for launching fireworks, which were vital for distracting zombies in infested zones. When the device failed one night, the truck was sent into provide support for the scavengers within the zone, with it's onboard miniguns and mounted machine guns. The truck would return to the Green, however it was Riley's second in command, Cholo DeMora, who stole it in order to hold Fiddler's Green up for a $5,000,000 dollar ransom or he would unleash the truck's ordinance on the tower, killing him in the process. Rather than pay the ransom, Kaufman sent Denbo and his colleague Charlie Houk, as well as Slack and several others to reacquire the truck.
Riley was successful in tracking Dead Reckoning, as the vehicle was built with a tracking device and was able to take it back from Cholo by force. While his job was to take the truck back to Fiddler's Green, Riley had other plans for it, as it was his design and he wished to do with it as he saw fit. Not only did he stop Cholo's plan on shelling the Green, but he did also use the vehicle to go back and rescue those still residing in the slums before making his way up north with both his friends and the crew of the vehicle.
Technical Readout[]
Dead Reckoning is heavily armored and armed with a variety of different weapons and equipment needed for scavenging missions. The truck itself is heavily armored and capable of withstanding hordes of undead easily. The vehicle was crewed by several people and was known to be the heavy vehicle for entering zombie-infested hotspots. It's likely the vehicle was constructed from the frame of a much smaller truck, however there is a possibility the entire vehicle was custom made. According to Kaufman, the vehicle was constructed on a budget of $2,000,000 dollars. It's designed with heavy armor plating, making it practically "zombie proof" and was Kaufman's first choice of transport, should the dead overrun Fiddler's Green.
Armaments[]
- Fireworks Launcher: To keep the zombies from attacking scavenging parties, Dead Reckoning is designed with a launcher specifically to shoot fireworks so the zombies can be easily distracted. While an excellent distraction, the device did show it was capable of jamming, however later on, the zombies began to learn and adapt, allowing them to disregard them altogether.
- Missile Launchers: On the top of the truck, are 2 missile launchers, which fire 6 missiles each.
- M60D Machine Guns: On the port and starboard sides of the truck, there are mounted M60D machine guns which are used to lay down suppressive fire whenever fireworks are not used.
- Remote Controlled Miniguns: For entering zombie infested locations, the front of the truck is modified with very powerful remote controlled machine guns which are controlled inside.
- Towing Cable: On the back of the truck, is a towing cable, which enables it to hauling heavy loads, such as supplies and vehicles that are inoperative.
- Tracking Beacon: To ensure the vehicle wasn't lost or stolen, a tracking device was installed aboard the truck. This was how Riley was able to find Dead Reckoning before midnight.
- Camera Feeds & Onboard Computers: Dead Reckoning has a number of various digital devices aboard, such as advanced mapping, as well as targeting systems and even feeds from cameras mounted on the outside of the vehicle. This gives the crew a quick heads up in case there are hordes of zombies on a specific side of the vehicle.
