Day of the Dead is the 2007 horror film remake of George A. Romero's classic zombie film of the same name, the third in the Living Dead series. The film is directed by Steve Miner (who also directed Friday the 13th Part 2, Friday the 13th Part 3 and Halloween H20: 20 Years Later) and written by Jeffrey Reddick. It is set to be released in the United States sometime in 2007.

Plot

The plot of the original film was about a small group of survivors inside of an underground storage facility when the world becomes overrun with zombies.

At this point so little information is known about this movie that little can be determined about the actual plot.

Bloody-disgusting.com states:

Day of the Dead (2007 film)
the film is a typical zombie film, virus infects town, people start biting each other, virus spreads by the bites, and a handful of survivors try to make it out of town alive. In this one the military is brought in to enforce a quarantine on the small town of Leadville, CO because of the mysterious virus. Once they realize the virus eventually makes people start ravenously attacking each other, it's too late... EXCEPT for a few.[1]

Day of the Dead (2007 film)

According to Reddick, this film does not have any connection to Zack Snyder's 2004 remake Dawn of the Dead. Reddick told ComingSoon.net:

Day of the Dead (2007 film)
It's going to be a separate movie, he told us. We wanted to pay homage to the original with the military and the scientists and the socially relevant stuff that George Romero always does, but we wanted to put a fresh spin on it. There will be similarities, but there'll be differences as well that I think fans will hopefully dig. Steve Miner (Friday the 13th Part 2) is directing, which I'm really excited about.[2]

Promotion

A teaser poster has surfaced over the internet. There is no word as to whether this is an official poster or simply a fan made one, although it resembles a poster for Land of the Dead that features a severed hand gripping a fence.

On October 23, 2006, a trailer was put on the internet but was taken down a few hours later. A copy of this trailer is available on Youtube.

The zombies shown in the trailer seem similar to the zombies featured in the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. The zombies shown in the Day of the Dead trailer seem to have the same high speed and mobility that the zombies in the previous remake had, unlike the slow uncoordinated zombies in the original Romero films. And, unlike the remakes, these zombies are rumored to be able to climb and run on walls and ceilings.

"Behind The Scenes" photos of some zombie scenes and effects have gone online [1].

Cast and crew

The film is being produced by Danny Dimbort, one of the producers of The Wicker Man and The Black Dahlia. Mena Suvari stars. Ving Rhames has been cast as Captain Rhodes, originally played by Joseph Pilato. According to IMDb, Christa Campbell, Matt Rippy, Vanessa Johansson, Linda Maralowe, Ian McNeice, Taylor Hoover and Hugh Skinner are attached.

Actor Role
Mena Suvari Sarah
Ving Rhames Captain Rhodes
Christa Campbell Mrs. Letiner
Nick Cannon Miguel Salazar
Micheal Welch Trevor
AnnaLynne McCord Nina
Stark Sands Bud Crain / Bub
Matt Rippy Dr. Logan
