Claire Redfield is a fictional character and one of the many protagonists in the Resident Evil franchise. She is a member of TerraSave, as well as the younger sister of former S.T.A.R.S. and later B.S.A.A. member, Chris Redfield.
Biography[]
Claire grew up together with her older brother Chris, forming a close bond with him after the death of their parents. She was introduced Barry Burton, a friend of Chris' while he served in the United States Airforce, becoming a longtime family friend. Following her high school career, Claire tended university, finding herself interested in motorcycles, particularly in customization of them, owning two as a result. At some point, Claire learned how to pick locks with a great expertise. She would occasionally visit Chris, following his move to Raccoon City and his employment as a member of S.T.A.R.S. It was through Chris that Claire learned how to use various weapons, including guns, knives and even hand to hand combat. Chris also gave Claire a specific gold lighter, as well as his S.T.A.R.S. standard issued knife.
Raccoon City Incident (1998)[]
In August of 1998, Claire had lost contact with Chris, completely unaware that he was in Europe, investigating the shady business of the Umbrella Corporation. By September of that year, she left college, looking for her brother in Raccoon City. In the northern part of the city, she stopped at a diner, noticing the violence caused by the release of the T-Virus, which had managed to leak into the city's water supply. It was here she met then-rookie RPD cop Leon S. Kennedy, who not only saved her, but also planned to accompany her to the police station for their safety. While in route, the pair were separated by an accident, resulting in them fighting their way out of it. They made their way to the station, finding only a few people being unaffected by the virus, including Brian Irons, the chief and 2 other officers. At the station, it was clear that Claire was aided by Lt. Marvin Branagh, covering her from zombies on her heels. It was Marvin who ordered Claire to kill the infected, be them civilians or cops and gave her a combat knife in the process, before he became a zombie. Claire would make her way to the parking garage, meeting with a young Sherry Birkin at the time, as well as the psychopathic Chief Irons, who had been killed by either a G-Virus embryo, or G-Virus infected William Birkin. The girls made their way through the sewers until they were separated and Sherry was infected with the G-Virus by her father. She soon met with Sherry's mother, Annette Birkin, who told her what to do and that there was a vaccine for the virus at NEST.
Claire made her way there, fought her way through the mutant-infested Umbrella facility and found the vaccine and stabilized Sherry. Claire and Sherry then escaped the facility via underground train, alongside Leon, but William was on the train, trying to get Sherry. Both Claire and Leon were able to kill William through an explosion. While initially staying together with the other 2, Leon convinced Claire to continue her search for Chris and that Sherry would be safe with her, which Claire accepted.
Rockfort Island Incident (1998)[]
Not long following the incident in Raccoon City, did Claire find herself in Paris, where she continued her search for Chris. She was, however, caught by Umbrella forces and sent to Rockfort Island, courtesy of Rodrigo Juan Raval. At the same time however, the H.C.F, a paramilitary operation under the command of Albert Wesker, launched an offensive on the island, allowing the T-Virus to be unleashed on the island. Ironically enough, an injured Raval released Claire from her prison, knowing she would likely die anyway. Once on the surface, Claire crossed paths with 17 year old Steve Burnside, a fellow prisoner whose father attempted to betray Umbrella, selling secrets on the black market. While both worked to make their way to the airfield, they were constantly hindered by the island's commander, Alfred Ashford, believing Redfield was the cause for the sabotage and assault. Before finding a form of escape on the airfield, Claire was able to contact Leon through a computer, who received the info due to his status now as a government operative and was able to relay the message to Chris.
Both Claire and Steve left for Antarctica, discovering that the Umbrella base there had also come under attack by the T-Virus, due to retreating personnel from Rockfort Island. They discovered it was several miles from an Australian outpost as they explored, planning to use a land-based vehicle to go there for help. They had their final confrontation with Alfred, who was shot and fell off a nearby ledge, but before dying, was able to awaken his sister, Alexia Ashford from her 15 year stasis. Following their encounter with the Nosferatu, Claire and Steve attempted to go through with their plan to reach the Australian base, however plant-like tentacles attacked the truck and captured both escapees, bringing them back to the base. Claire awoke, separated from Steve, but was met with Chris, who had tracked her to her location from Rockfort Island. Both siblings were now having to face both Alexia, as well as the arrival of Albert Wesker himself. Both siblings sought out Steve, who had been infected by the T-Veronica Virus, which made them have to take down Steve, much to the sadness of Claire. Chris was able to activate the self-destruct, but Claire was captured by Wesker, then released when Chris promised him a one on one fight. Once freed, she prepared a Harrier fighter for take off and was joined by Chris not long after.
Thanks to unrestricted visitation rights by Derek C. Simmons, who Sherry was now living with under protective custody, Claire would regularly visit her. Claire herself, didn't trust Simmons, as she believed him no better than the Umbrella Corporation and attempted to send Sherry a letter, warning her about him, but she never received it. It was clear however, that Claire had a major influence on Sherry, inheriting her maternal nature strong beliefs and heart.
Harvardville Incident (2005)[]
In the years, following the incident at Rockfort Island and even the collapse of Umbrella, Claire became associated with the NGO known as TerraSave, an organization that was tasked with aiding those that were victim to the increasing global threat of bioterrorism. TerraSave set its sights on the WP Corporation, a pharmaceutical company based in the United States, suspected of being responsible with the outbreak of the T-Virus in India in 2005, but it was actually a bioterrorist attack. WP however, was able to get the T-Virus vaccine over to India to combat the attack. The attack itself had been covered up, but footage of the corporations treatment, resulting in many given the inaccurate perception of inhumane testing on humans. Claire found herself in the home of the WP Corporation, Harvardville, where she was part of an organized protest against Harvardville native, Senator Ron Davis, mostly due to his heavy investments in the corporation. Redfield and another were arrested, but at the same time however, the airport they were located in came under attack by the T-Virus, causing many in the area to become infected, which led to the entire premises was put under lockdown by the 75th Army Regiment. Claire was among the survivors, including Sen. Davis and a fellow TerraSave members daughter, Rani Chawla, having taken shelter in the lounge for VIPs. Inside, they were able to make phone calls to the outside and later that night, 2 soldiers accompanying Leon S. Kennedy, arrived at the area, ahead of a ranger assault. Claire was also able to find a name for the suspected bioterrorist on the airport, that being Dr. Curtis Miller, a former WP and TerraSave worker who was ousted by both parties. She saw him during the initial attack, who she revealed after Leon and his accompanying soldiers saved them.
Outside, Claire was met by WP Corporation senior researcher, Dr. Frederic Downing, acknowledging the cover up within India. Following the sabotage of T-Virus vaccine aboard a truck, Claire accompanied Dr. Downing to a nearby library complex, where she was shown that he had a cache of the vaccine, as well as explaining they acquired the G-Virus from the black market. Claire came to the conclusion that Sen. Davis was involved in the bioterror attacks, due to a call Dr. Downing received from him. Downing then allowed Claire to investigate a disturbance in the lower levels, where she found Curtis Miller attacking the facility. Downing attempted to warn Claire, but was cut off, leading Curtis to infect himself with the G-Virus, who was able to wipe out the ranger squad tasked with his apprehension. Redfield was able to escape with minor injury, while Leon engaged a mutated Curtis and take out much of the facility. Minutes following the battle, Claire learned that all footage had been recorded and streamed to a third party, as well as learning the Downing was the one responsible for the attack, faking his death and planning to sell the G-Virus and T-Virus vaccine to a foreign general, unaware that his contact was arrested. Downing revealed himself to be actually an Umbrella researcher, responsible for the theft of the G-Virus from NEST in 1998, changing his name and gaining employment at the WP. He admitted that he masterminded the whole incident in India, resulting in the vaccine to be determined and radicalized Miller's work in the US in order to hide his involvement. It was thanks to both Redfield and Kennedy, that the Bajiri military failed to gain a sample of the G-Virus.
Investigation into Penamstan and The Mad Dogs (2006)[]
6 years after the Harvardville incident, the civil war in Penamstan had ended, leading to many laying down their weapons. The entire nation was in ruins and forced to rely on the United Nations and TerraSave for relief efforts. Redfield would go to the country, where she would begin investigating a camp, meeting a mute paraplegic and young boy, who provided Claire an illustration on what he had seen in early 2000, which was that of people performing horrible acts of cannibalism. Claire was clearly disturbed by the image, but it proved that the country was using or was subject to a bio-weapons like the T-Virus. Claire would go to a scheduled appointment with Press Secretary Spacer, following an attack on the White House, but Spacer was leaving, completely unaware that he was killed in the attack. Claire would then reunite with Leon, letting him know about a potential biohazard within Penamstan. Leon would leave, telling her not to do anything, but Claire wasn't going to listen to him. She returned to her motel room in D.C, where she decided to investigate the conflict that recently ended in the war-torn Penamstan. She watched various pieces of footage from the news, as well as looking at clippings from tabloids. Piecing her work together on a wall, she began to suspect that the information was apart of a bigger controversy, which allowed for the U.S. intervention in the country to be simply as a means to intimidate the Chinese. She also looked into men who served in the conflict, finding a group called the Mad Dogs, which only 2 remained, with the other 5 having committed suicide.
Claire's investigation continued, seeking answers from a veteran of the conflict in Penamstan, only to find he too committed suicide. She discovered a note alongside the veteran, calling the NYPD, where she began to suspect that all these soldiers that committed suicide were infected. She would head for the White House, to ask Wilson, the Defense Secretary, leading the man to ignore him entirely, but she was tased and kidnapped upon her return to her motel by Secret Service operatives. Strapped into a chair, Claire woke up in a secret facility beneath Andrews Air Force base, where research on the virus was being conducted to create an army of super-soldiers. Claire is then both interrogated by Wilson, who attempts to bribe her with a donation to her source of employment, only to reject it. She learns that Wilson was able to keep law enforcement from investigating the deaths due to soldiers suffering from PTSD and the reason why she didn't die already. Wilson reveals that he planned to give the Penamstan nation an army of super soldiers, which would be enslaved via the use of an antiretroviral drug which only he could provide and would make him wealthy, but not before declaring China a rogue state. Claire then notices one of the last members of the Mad Dogs named Jason, appear before her. Jason's mutation caused a biohazard alarm to sound and all unconscious soldiers dumped into a vat of acid, which also put Claire in danger at the same time. She is then forced to climb away from the climbing acid, but is saved by Leon before she is harmed. She would then attempt to use the cranes of the facility to knock Jason into the acid, but she is nearly killed when he tosses a gantry at the control room, but Leon was able to kill Jason, leading both of them to vacate the facility. Following that, Claire and Leon meet up in the afternoon, where she asks Leon for the chip so she could bring it to the press. Because of Jason's plan to terrify people however, Leon didn't allow this, leading to them parting ways.
Death of Albert Wesker & Counter-Bioterrorism Expansion (2009-2010)[]
Due to the intervention of her brother Chris and his partner Sheva Alomar, the conglomerate of Tricell collapsed due to its involvement in bioweaponry. It also marked the demise of Albert Wesker, as well as Excella Gionne. Because Wesker's death deemed that Sherry Birkin's protective custody was no longer necessary, she was given a position in the government as an agent, much to the protest of Claire. Despite this, they remained close and would meet each other anytime.
Sein Island Incident (2011)[]
Claire and a number of other TerraSave members were captured by a paramilitary force commanded by Alex Wesker in 2011. All of the members, including Claire, had been taken to the island of Sein, but not before their infection by the T-Phobos Virus, as a way to find an ideal candidate for Wesker's consciousness transferal experiment. Claire woke in an old prison, finding Gina Foley and Moira Burton as well as having to deal with the afflicted on the island. Foley was killed, but Claire and Moira were able to leave into the woods, reaching a fishing village, where they reunited with their boss Neil Fisher, Gabriel Chavez and Pedro Fernandez. They came under by afflicted, where it was revealed that they were all infected with the T-Phobos, as well as Fernandez's mutation due to his fear getting the better of him. This led Claire, Moira, Neil and Gabriel being separated. Claire and Moira then came across Natalia Korda, who was also abducted in the raid on TerraSave. Natalia showed no fear to the monsters on the island, the trait which Alex was seeking, leading Fisher to kidnap her, following Chavez becoming infected, attempting to flee the island on a helicopter.
Claire and Moira were now on their own, but were led into a trap by Wesker at an old food processing plant. This was to have been the end of both women, but they managed to flee the trap. Their escape allowed them access to Wesker's facility, where they encountered Neil. They learned here, that it was Neil who offered up his own team as test subjects to Wesker, in exchange for a sample of the Uroboros Virus in order to manufacture a vaccine to make it no longer effective. It would be then that Wesker shot Neil with a dart, infecting him with the virus instead of handing it over. This caused him to mutate rather quickly, into a monster. An intense fight broke out, leading to Fisher to be finally killed in the process, before making their way up Wesker's tower. They found Alex in a chamber with Natalia in a coma, where they witnessed Alex kill herself, triggering the tower's self-destruct. Claire was able to flee, falling into the sea, but Moira was left behind on the island for the next 6 months. Claire was afloat until she was rescued and sent to a hospital for examination. At the same time, she told Barry what happened and gave him enough information for the B.S.A.A. to launch an operation on the island. The following day, after Barry's investigation, Claire returned to the island in a chopper, aiding in the destruction of Alex, who had been mutated by both T-Phobos and the Uroboros Virus. She was responsible for the death of Wesker by a direct hit by an RPG-7. Claire, Moira, Barry and Natalia would all return home together, where Barry announced that he was going to adopt Natalia. 2 years later, Claire was on her way to the Burton residence, likely for Natalia's birthday, where she got a call from the B.S.A.A, stating her brother was in China. She then told them to send Piers Nivans to aid him.
Sonido de Tortuga Incident (2014)[]
Claire and TerraSave would be sent to the island of Sonido de Tortuga, investigating possible B.O.W. activity in 2014. She discovered a heavily mutated fish in the city of Conejo, on the neighboring island of Zanahoria, photographing the corpse and sending it to Inéz Diaco, her partner. Not long following this however, the fish comes to life and attempts to kill Claire, but she stabs it with her knife. Claire would then investigate further in Conejo's library, finding historical documents, stating that Oswell E. Spencer, Umbrella's late CEO, financed the island in the 1990s. Following this, Claire couldn't contact her partner, forced to contact the B.S.A.A. and her brother for support. Chris couldn't come, as he was in the Mojave, but dispatched a team, led by Parker Luciani to aid Diaco. Claire and Parker arrived on Sonido de Tortuga, where they met with survivors from the show Idol Survivor. These survivors consisted of Takeru Tominaga, Yuki Mayu, Laura Bierce and Zǐlì, as well as Marilou Mabou. Dealing with the Schraube Dämon and Morio, Claire took the survivors to a safe spot, based on intel she got from Parker. The intel was a research facility, which was established and commanded by the late Alex Wesker, conducting research on immortality. Claire continued investigating, but witnessed Inéz at the hands of a hunter before meeting one of Alex's subordinates, Dirk Miller, creator of the Kodoku Project. Claire attempted to capture Miller, only to be confronted by Zǐlì, revealing herself to be a double agent for Shén Yà Pharmaceutical. Claire was then disarmed and knocked unconscious by Zǐlì, who planned to torture her.
Hours later, Zǐlì's plans were stopped by a zombified Laura, leading Claire to escort the other survivors to safety. They were then captured by mercenaries of Shén Yà, but because Zǐlì infected herself with a new virus, she mutated and caused a distraction for them to escape. Claire was able to take down the mutant with a rocket launcher, with the aid of Takeru and Morio. She fled the island on a B.S.A.A. chopper, leading to Zǐlì's inevitable destruction.
San Francisco Killings & Alcatraz Outbreak (2015)[]
A year later, following the Sonido de Tortuga and New York Bioterror incidents, Claire was contacted by San Francisco native, William Gunner. Gunner had found an Orca that was not only beached and mutilated, but was being monitored by TerraSave. Investigating the bite mark on the whale, Claire saw that no living creature was big enough to perform such a bite like this. She took samples of the Orca and sent them to Rebecca Chambers, another member of the B.S.A.A. and former member of S.T.A.R.S. She met with Jill Valentine, as well as Chris and Chambers, all of which were in the middle of investigating mysterious murders and infections. She reveals the samples of the whale, while also explaining this isn't the only case around the vicinity of Alcatraz Island. Like the victims found, the Orca was also infected with the same T-Virus, linking them together, leading Claire to accompany Chris and Jill to the former prison island. The trio blend into a tourist group, for the island tour, but they were unaware that they were monitored by the mastermind behind the murders on the mainland. The tourists were then infected by the virus with practically no warning, leading Claire to isolate the survivors from the infected, but this failed, leading to only Jill, Chris and Claire being the only survivors. Jill was separated from the siblings, following a failed attempt to save a guard that fell into the sewers. The pair attempted to contact Jill via comms, but their signal was jammed, not only cutting them off from Jill, but from everywhere else as well. Claire and Chris find survivor Tony Davis, who accompanies them, but also begins accusing Claire of being responsible for the Harvardville Incident back in 2005, leading Claire to retort that the group was framed for the attack. Tony wanders off on his own, leading him to be confronted by several zombies, leading Claire and Chris to take out hostiles, as well as promising to tend to the wounds of any survivors. Chris then tells Claire to take Tony and leave, while he searched for Jill, but Claire was pricked by a drone and Chris was too not long after. Tony is pricked too, leading all three to pass out, only to wake in jail cells.
They find themselves infected, while rapidly succumbing to the infection. Jill is able to arrive, but with Leon due to the request of the mastermind, with Leon recognizing Tony as DARPA scientist, Antonio Taylor. Taylor himself was unwillingly aiding the terrorist, but is also wanted by the US Government for leaking military secrets. The mastermind reveals himself to be Dylan Blake, a former mercenary, as well as María Gómez, Glenn Arias' accomplice. Dylan's motive is to make various organizations, including government agencies and even corporations for not working to a true solution to end the likes of bioterrorism for good. As Claire is about to succumb to her infection, Jill is given the choice of either killing Claire or let Claire become a zombie and kill Taylor. Instead, Jill holds her gun at Dylan, who ends up killing Antonio in the process. Claire, still weakened, tends to his wounds, leading Antonio to witness first hand, her heroics and intentions. Antonio, before dying, reveals he had a backdoor into Blake's network, relaying it to her before drawing his last breath. Luckily for them, Chambers arrived on the island, with vaccines in hand and curing any afflicted. Claire, Rebecca and Chris arrive at the armory, reuniting with Leon and Jill, confronting Blake, infecting himself with the virus and merging with the Megalodon, a B.O.W. The 5 take on the hybrid, but their weapons show little to no damage, leading Leon to direct Claire and Rebecca to input the "backdoor" to cease the unleashing of drones. Before Claire could terminate the drones after both her and Rebecca deciphered and inputted the codes, Rebecca recommended they send the drones to infect Dylan further and destabilized his DNA. They do so and Dylan is weakened, leading to a combined assault, finally killing him for good. Victorious, the group reminisce over the operation before choppers arrived with reinforcements and relief for the survivors on the island.

Personality & Traits[]
Claire possesses a maternal nature and strong heart, which was shown throughout her life. She cares a lot for people, even those who were victim to bioterror, as she knows what kind of nightmare such weapons can cause. While she is kind, Claire is clearly no pushover either, as she can be easily angered, such as when Ron Davis put Rani Chawla in harms way, causing her to lash out and hit him in consequence. She is also not afraid to protect her friends and her allies against B.O.Ws either, even going to pick up a gun and kill the B.O.Ws if necessary.
Skills & Abilities[]
- Peek Physical Condition: Since having her first encounter with the various forms of bioterrorism in the world, Claire has remained in a peek condition as possible.
- Weapons Expert: From her brother Chris, who served as a US Airforce soldier, a member of S.T.A.R.S. and later, the B.S.A.A, Claire was taught how to use a number of weapons, including knives and firearms effectively and accurately.
- Hand-to-Hand Combat: Much like with weapons, Chris also trained Claire in the art of hand to hand combat, giving her an advantage if she is without a weapon.
- Survivalist: Claire is a natural survivor, typically able to learn from the situation and even how to escape them.
- Investigation: Claire was shown to have a form of natural investigative ability. This allowed her to piece together specific things, such as when she suspected the WP Corporation was involved in the incident at Harvardville, as well as the incident in India. She was also able to piece together that the use of bioweapons were deployed in Penamstan.
