Night of the Living Dead: Aftermath (2016)[]

Issue 1[]

By 1977, Annie has been on her own, living in L.A. with her band, performing various gigs for the zombie punk culture. She and her lover Billy were filming on a set, where Annie was portraying the role of a prostitute zombie, performing oral sex on Billy. This was interrupted however by a phone call, which Billy answered and gave to Annie. While on the phone, Annie is told about the first reports of undead sightings on the west coast in 5 years. Despite this, she refuses to cancel her gig, resulting in both her and Billy going out to the car and stuffing a bunch of fake life-sized zombie props into the trunk. On the way to their gig however, they're pulled over by cops who believe Annie has turned. Assuring them it's just make up and that she's the leader of the band the Creeping Flesh and after seeing other young men and women dressed up like zombies, they decide to let them off.

Later that night, while the band played, a horde of zombies raided the gig, causing chaos and killing off people one by one. Realizing it isn't a stage invasion and that the zombies are in fact real, Annie and Billy make a break for the exit while the remaining members of her band are devoured. Once outside, Billy is ambushed by a zombie, which takes a bite out of his cheek. Annie is able to knock the zombie down with her guitar and they get moving back to her studio. Once there, she orders Billy to call her father, while she gets her gun and takes up the phone, telling her father she will be going to Las Vegas that night and manage to do so before the roads are closed off to contain the spread of the virus. On the way however, Billy reveals he's been bit and that he isn't gonna make it. This results in her pulling over, both getting out of the car and her point her gun at him, but he insists the he walk away. Allowing him to take steps away from her, Annie decides to shoot him anyway and keep him from turning before continuing her journey to Las Vegas.

She arrives outside of the city, where she is subjected to blood tests to determine she isn't infected, but the cops outside the city find the fake zombies in her trunk. She attempts to convince the cops they are not real, but they order her to leave. This is when she gives them a number to call and that the name Annie Dante is fake. She is then allowed in thanks to her father and meets up with him at the Silver Bullet hotel and casino. They reunite and Paxman gives his daughter a key to a suite where she can clean up.

Issue 2[]

Following her arrival in Las Vegas, Annie was poolside at the hotel, right next to Millie, a worker of her father's. Both spoke, observing the love between Mike Woodford and his girlfriend, who he was cheating on his wife Jackie with while she was in Atlanta. Both spoke about the Vietnam War, as well as the events leading up to Paxman and Annie's estrangement. This however changed, as Jackie found him and his girl by the pool. Angered by how her husband had betrayed her, she pulled a gun on the couple, leading to Annie pulling her arm on her. She attempted to convince her not to make a mistake she would regret. When the incident was reported to her father, the senator made his way to the roof, where he took a guard's gun and shot Jackie in the head with it. Jackie's lifeless body fell into the pool, blood pouring into the water from the hole in her head and Mike was left devastated at what had just happened. Following this, Paxman confiscated his daughter's gun and assured him that it wasn't loaded, which was confirmed by one of his guards.

Issue 3[]

As Las Vegas was becoming designated as a no safe zone, with the incoming horde moving through it, Annie met with the Kovacs family, consisting of Wayne, Phyllis and Connie. Wayne asked her if she was the one involved in the incident with the girl on the roof and if she was Paxman's daughter, to which she confirmed. She learned that the zombie squad killed his dad and learned of her job as a musician and singer when she mentioned that would be a great song name. When inquiring what music he enjoyed, he simply said the Eagles, which caused her to put out her recently lit cigarette and reply to him with "you're dead to me".

Issue 4[]

Following her encounter with the Kovacs, she went to her father and demanded the return of her gun. Paxman, however, forbade this as she had a criminal record for possession of narcotics. She tried making a case of her own protection against the zombie horde making its way through Las Vegas and if she didn't have a gun, she'd end up dead. She then learned that Millie was carrying a gun and was going to protect her, as well as all the people who worked for him. The trio then turned their attention to the TV, where they saw a refugee camp massacre in Kingman, Arizona. Paxman then ordered Millie to get Nick Brancusi on the phone, who told the senator that the idea of leaving was bad. Insisting that he, Annie and some people leave, Nick hung up on him, leading to him yelling into the phone, which Annie sarcastically asked if he hung up on him. She then added with that even the mighty Senator Paxman was powerless in his attempt to escape. It's then that Annie asked Millie if she wanted to check the Elvis show, which Paxman agreed to and ordered Millie to keep Annie out of trouble.

They arrived in the starlight room, where Annie ordered a double scotch hold the ice, only to be countered by Millie ordering her a soda and an O.J. with ice for herself. Annie then turned to Millie saying that wasn't what her dad meant by keeping her out of trouble. She then turned her attention to the table to her right, where the Kovacs were sitting and Wayne came over to see her. Wayne admitted he was surprised to see Annie there, even though Annie wasn't surprised to see him at the show. It's then that they were interrupted by the announcer, who would find himself torn apart by a zombie of an Elvis impersonator behind him. This caused chaos, leading to Millie pulling out her gun and ordering Annie to the exit. Annie however, snatched the gun from her hand and told her to head for the exit and took aim at the zombies. Despite the insistence of them leaving by Wayne, Annie assured him that there was only 3 of them and she was packing. It's then that Annie aided Wayne, as he got a zombie off a nearby patron and blew the zombie's head off before asking him if he was alright.

Issue 5[]

As Mike and several others entered the starlight room, Annie was still amongst the living, killing off zombies with the handgun taken from Millie, with Wayne at her side, impaling a nearby zombie. With the last of the zombies dead, Annie turned to Wayne and both smiled at each other.

Issue 6[]

As the chaos in the hotel continued, the power had gone out and Annie was able to reunite with her father, who vouched for everyone being uninfected. They learn that the virus has taken states in both the central and eastern parts of the United States, setting up a secure border along the Mississippi River, leading to Annie saying that they were abandoned. It's then that the survivors learn that vehicles are prepared for them to evacuate Vegas and head for the Eastern states. Annie and several others escaped in a Range Rover, while others escaped in a camper, running into incoming zombies along the way. Once out of Vegas, they decided to take a short break and wait for the remaining survivors, however the soldier with them spotted only the ever-growing horde of zombies, walking from the city, which was no ablaze. Paxman, who saw them too, warned of the incoming horde and that they have to keep moving now because despite the fact the zombies were indeed slow, they had no need to rest or stop, so they had to keep ahead of them as a result.

Issue 7[]

Following their departure from Las Vegas, Annie and the other survivors met up with lone survivor, Stanislav Vanek, who had lost his wife Tara to a small trio of zombies. Annie learned that Tara was having an affair on Stan when she learned that a friend of his was hiding in the bathtub naked and learned he forced him out of his house that way and into the night. She and the others then learn about a military installation at Red Rock and then Annie reveals to Stan that her dad is a Republican senator, which surprised him. When continuing on their journey, Stand brought them to the installation in Beaver County and welcomed by the troop at the gate, which Annie replied with a sarcastic "Yeah right".

Issue 8[]

Having arrived in the Red Rock military installation, Annie and the others were subjected to blood tests, meeting Col. Franklin Cyrus, the commanding officer of the base. Following him ordering a 48 hour quarantine for the group, they had little choice but to comply, remaining in a holding cell for the time being. While in there, Annie was looking through the records for the player and soon after, witnessed Mike beating her father down for murdering Jackie back in Vegas.

Issue 9[]

Annie could be seen hanging out with the others in the cell, witnessing the incident between Phyllis and Vic Fargo about Connie. Following this, Connie was then called for tests by order of the military, but Annie's dad refused to let her go without a proper explanation, resulting in a soldier whacking Paxman in the head with the stock of his rifle. Annie realized that they planned on infecting Connie, telling them as she tended to her father. She soon found herself at Wayne's side, as he was determined to take on these troops and escape. It's then that Vic volunteers in Connie's place and leaving without an issue. Annie then noticed Connie take her mother's cross and throw it outside the bars in anger.

Issue 10[]

The night following the incident, Annie had found herself in bed with Wayne, having sex. Both attempted to keep quiet, but Phyllis found them in mid-coitus, demanding her to get off him. The incident caused some uproar in the cell. As Phyllis believed they'd all burn in hell, Connie began telling her that civilization was falling apart around them, the dead were walking the Earth and made a point that god could give a damn if Annie and Wayne were making love. They then went to their separate beds, to which Annie said to Wayne, "pleasant dreams, lover", with a smile on her face and a cigarette in her hand. The next morning, they discussed at what had transpired, with Connie now with Vic and planning their escape. She then interrupted, telling how naïve her father was and how Stan led them to the base with his "bullshit stories" and nothing more but lamb to the slaughter.

Issue 11[]

As they sat and waited, Annie went to Wayne, who was angered about Connie being taken from the cell and expressed her condolences about his sister. The two then embraced and Wayne realized they were gonna die, to which Annie concurred and asked him how he wanted to go out. His answer was to go out fighting, which led to Mike to propose a plan that involved beating up her father. With her okay, Mike began beating Paxman, causing a riot, leading to guards entering and ambushed by Jefferson, a soldier who survived the incident in Las Vegas. Annie grabbed the guard's M-16 and with Jefferson's aid, got out of their cell, however were now surrounded by soldiers outside.

Issue 12[]

Following them leaving their cell, the forces outside killed Mike with a well-aimed shot to the head. Annie and the others then took cover when they opened fire at the doorway. As Wayne witnesses a helicopter departing, he believes the army will likely forget about them, but Annie sarcastically says that it's highly unlikely, but the helicopter departing ended up crashing. This caused a big enough distraction for Annie and the survivors to escape and hijack a couple of jeeps. A second chopper attempted to leave, only to be shot down by Vanek, who was surrounded and being eaten by the zombies he led to the base. Fortunately, Vic and Connie survived the crash and were able to accompany the others to Washington D.C, as Vic was the last best hope of mankind.

Personality & Traits[]

Being a woman who grew up in the post-apocalyptic world, Annie was a rebel and can be cynical, as well as sarcastic when she wants to be, especially with her estranged father. Despite being the daughter of the Nevada Senator, Annie was not spoiled and independent. Where as many women would run in terror at the sight of zombie hordes coming their way, Annie was the kind of person to pick up a weapon and was looking to fight for her very life. She maybe stubborn, like how she refused to cancel a gig due to zombie sightings in L.A, but she wasn't stupid and was prepared in case zombies did indeed came back. She was also one who was somewhat promiscuous, as she performed oral sex on her lover Billy and then later on, ended up in bed with Wayne Kovacs.

Despite her rather tough demeaner, Annie wasn't heartless, as she showed care for people who were surviving with her. Examples of this were when she asked Wayne if he was alright, as well as being there for him when his sister was taken by the guards..
