Alice, otherwise known as Project: Alice or Alicia Marcus is a fictional character, seen in the Resident Evil films, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. She is the main protagonist of the films, alongside other characters from the game series.
Biography[]
Alice was created as a clone of James Marcus' daughter, Alicia, but like other clones, believed herself to be the original. She was assigned to protect the Looking Glass House as part of her job as a security operative for the Umbrella Corporation. She and a man named Spence Parks were married, but this was a fake, as part of their cover, but did become romantically involved down the line. Alice was able to get in contact with Umbrella researcher, Lisa Addison, who was the sister of FBI agent Matt Addison. Addison was a mole and rather than arrest her, Alice decided to aid in her procuring the T-Virus through her access, but her price was that they were to take down the corporation. Unbeknownst to the two women however, Spence learned of the plan through a listening device, believing it would end in failure. Instead, he hatched his own plan to steal a sample of both the T-Virus and Anti-Virus, sell it on the black market and run away with Alice and live a happy life. The two engaged in a sexual encounter and after, Alice awoke to find Spence gone. She went for a shower, having placed out some clothes for herself after, but ended up succumbing to a gas that knocked her unconscious for several hours afterwards. This was caused due to Spence having unleashed the T-Virus in the Hive before leaving.
The Hive[]
Coming to after being knocked out by the gas emitted by the Red Queen, Alice has found herself stricken with complete, but temporary amnesia. While she gets out of the shower, she dresses and briefly explores the manor, trying to find clues to her identity. She is then met by Matt Addison, who seeks to find the sample of the virus, only for both to be confronted by Umbrella's sanitation unit, led by James Shade, who demands a report from Alice. After learning about her amnesia, he realizes that there's not enough soldiers to secure the upstairs, so they take Alice and an apprehended Addison down to the Hive. While descending into the Hive, they encounter Spence, who is also suffering from amnesia as well. They are able to successfully shut down the Hive's advanced AI, known as the Red Queen, but at the cost of a few of their comrades due to the defenses. Because the Red Queen is linked to primary power of the entire facility, shutting her down resulted in the release of the personnel, who were infected with the T-Virus. Engaging several zombies, their forces further dwindle and Rain Ocampo is infected in the process.
During the confusion, Alice finds herself on her own, but not before encountering T-Virus infected dogs, referred to as Cerberus. She is able to kill several with a handgun before using her martial arts on the last one. As she ventures further into the Hive, Alice's memory begins to slowly return to her, such as the fact that her contact was Matt's sister and that there was an anti-virus to the virus. Spence's memory also returns, this time with him turning on the others and holding them at gunpoint. He leaves and is bitten by a zombie beforehand, but uses the anti-virus on himself, but it's in vain, as a Licker manages to reach him and feed on him. They board the train, taking the samples with them, but Alice kills Spence, who was turned into a zombie before leaving on a nearby train. While successfully injecting Rain with the anti-virus, the group comes under attack by the Licker, leading to a fight between it and them. Rain's condition wasn't reached in time and she turns, but is killed by Matt, who aids Alice against the Licker. Matt, however, is scratched by the beast, leading Alice to use the anti-virus on him. Before she could do so however, a group of Umbrella personnel enter the manor and apprehend both of them. Alice is transferred to an Umbrella facility in Raccoon City, while Matt is placed in the Nemesis program.
Raccoon City[]
On orders from Maj. Cain, Alice was awakened in in the midst of the Raccoon City attack. She escaped the facility she had been housed in and found herself arming up, knowing full well that the T-Virus had escaped its containment from the Hive. At the same time, Alice also finds out she is also genetically altered thanks to T-Virus exposure following herself finding a surplus store and preparing for the long night ahead. She sensed several survivors in a church, including Jill Valentine, Peyton Wells and Terri Morales. She aided them against the Lickers inside and was escorting them to safety, while also explaining the true origins of the outbreak. They soon formulate a deal with Dr. Charles Ashford, who offers a way out of the city before Umbrella launches a 5 kiloton nuclear warhead on the city, in exchange for find his daughter Angela who was hiding out at her school. They soon find themselves separated when they come under attack by Nemesis, once known as Matt Addison who had been scratched by a licker in the Hive. Alice takes on Nemesis, but has to flee. She manages to meet with the others at the school, using a cigarette to ignite a gas-filled kitchen in the cafeteria to take out several Cerberuss. They also find themselves meeting with Carlos Olivera, a former member of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service, also looking for Angela.
They find themselves arriving at city hall, but walk into a trap where Maj. Cain takes the others hostage in order to get Alice to fight Nemesis. With little choice, she fights Nemesis, realizing that the creature was once Matt Addison, refusing to kill him once she gains the upper hand. This leads to a fight between the Umbrella forces there, as well as Nemesis rebelling against Umbrella, aiding the others before he dies. They are able to kill all the guards before taking the chopper and leave Cain for dead. They make way out of the city just as the bomb flies in, destroying Raccoon City. The shockwave leads to damage on the chopper and Alice having to protect Angela from a piece of shrapnel on the craft, impaling her abdomen. 2 hours following the incident, her body had been retrieved in the Arklay Mountains and taken to a lab where she spent 3 weeks in a stasis tank to recover. Dr. Isaacs, an Umbrella scientist, reanimated Alice with a more powerful strain of the T-Virus, which allowed them to release her from the tank and asking her name or her memories of the incident. In seconds, all her memories returned to her, causing a brief skirmish with Umbrella security in the facility and able to kill a guard with the use of newer telekinetic powers before reuniting with her friends, all of which who survived the crash.
Global T-Virus Pandemic[]
Following her escape from the Detroit facility, Alice realizes she was a threat to her allies, leading her to leave them and go off on her own. She did download a plan detailing the exact location of every Umbrella satellite in orbit, giving her an advantage and keeping her off the grid. She was on the road for 5 long years, but answered a call for help, which was a trap set by psychopaths, tossed into a pit with Cerberus for their amusement. She was able to not only turn the tables on the psychos, but also escape and get back on the road again. Because of the growth of her psionic powers, Umbrella is then able to track her alpha and beta brainwave activity. She would then find herself accidentally using her telekinesis while sleeping, destroying her bike in the process, leading her to join up with Claire Redfield's convoy. Alice uses her psionic powers to manipulate fire from a nearby flamethrower and sets a flock of infected crows ablaze, saving the convoy, but passes out in the process. They realize that their supplies are low, including fuel, leading them having to go to ruins of Las Vegas. Accompanying them, they make their way to the city, where they find themselves caught in a trap set by Dr. Isaacs. He unleashed a cargo container of advanced undead on the convoy, resulting in several casualties, but Alice is able to easily dispatch them.
While fighting, Isaacs ordered for the activation of Alice's Neural dampener, paralyzing her body in the process, but it doesn't last long, as she fights the effects and is able to free herself before engaging the Umbrella presence there. Several flee in a chopper, leading the convoy in pursuit. Finding a structure in the desert, completely surrounded by zombies, Carlos, now infected, decides to provide a distraction, killing himself while taking several more zombies in a massive explosion. The survivors enter the perimeter fence and take the chopper to their destination, being Arcadia in Alaska. Alice, however, remains and finds herself engaging a now-infected Isaacs down in the underground facility. Despite the power of Isaacs however, a clone of Alice was able to use a computer to activate the facility's laser grid defense in the simulation room of the Looking Glass Manor to kill him. Alice would then contact the Chairmen of Umbrella in Tokyo, Albert Wesker, in order to tell him that she was coming and bringing some "friends", being an army of herself.
Tokyo & Arcadia[]
Following the incident in Nevada, Alice, along with an army of clones, attacked an underground facility in Japan, taking out multiple soldiers of Umbrella, but also experiencing casualties as well. The infiltration was enough to make Wesker flee, but not before destroying the entire facility and Tokyo with it. While aboard a VTOL, the real Alice creeps up behind him at gunpoint, only for him to catch her off guard and injecting her with a serum that purged her body of the T-Virus, rendering her powerless. Wesker nearly killed her, only for the VTOL to crash land into Mt. Fuji. Alice survived and was able to flee for Alaska, where she reunited with Claire Redfield, but she had a Scarab-looking device on her chest, which Alice removed. Binding Claire, it was clear she was the subject of amnesia, which made Alice have to explain who she was, plus who she was as well. Taking Claire aboard her aircraft, they make their way to Los Angeles, where they find a rooftop with people on it, surrounded by zombies. Alice was able to land on the rooftop, but the building was a maximum security prison. They meet with Luther West, Angel Ortiz, Bennett Sinclair, Angel Ortiz, Crystal Waters, Kim Yong and Wendell, with Chris Redfield in a cell and everyone believing him to be convict.
The survivors believed that the pair were from Arcadia, which wasn't a place in Alaska, but a massive cargo ship just off shore. Alice asks Claire if she remembers anything, leading her to remember that she was left behind, while the others were captured by Umbrella troops. After a bit of time there, they find that the zombies have dug through the showers of the prison, leading them to have to release Chris from his cell, leading to a reunion between him and Claire, although she has no recollection of him being her brother. They then prepare to flee the prison, only to have an Axeman attack the main gate, while Alice accompanied Chris and Crystal to the armory that was flooded. Crystal didn't make it, but the other two did and they managed to get out of the armory via the ventilation shaft. They are able to flee the prison, but lose Luther as a result of a zombie, as well as Kim to the Axeman and Angel from Bennett shooting him. This left Chris, Claire and Alice the only survivors, taking a boat to the ship. Once aboard, they find it abandoned, but down in the lower decks, they find the symbol for Umbrella, meaning this vessel was owned by the corporation. Entering the vessel, they find survivors, who were placed in cryo storage for later use in experiments. Alice leaves the siblings to free the people, while Alice made her way further into 2 other chambers, encountering Albert Wesker once more, while being held at gunpoint by Sinclair and a couple of Cerberuss. Wesker then engages both Redfield siblings, utilizing his superhuman powers to easily overpower them and planning to ingest Alice's flesh to gain full control of the T-Virus in his system. Alice is able to kill both Cerberuss, while K-Mart is able to knock Sinclair down and toss Alice one of her shotguns, allowing her to blast a hole through Wesker's head and freeing the Redfield siblings, who open fire on the still not dead Wesker. They leave Sinclair in the room with Wesker, where he dies from being eaten. Not long after however, Wesker flees in a VTOL from the ship, planning to destroy the ship. Unknowingly however, Alice planted the bomb aboard the VTOL before he fled, killing him in the process. With the survivors now freed aboard the vessel, the trio were happy to see how many survived. Their victory however, is short lived, as Umbrella forces, led by a brainwashed Jill Valentine attacks the vessel.
Umbrella Prime[]
After the attack on the Arcadia, Alice was recovered by Umbrella forces and brought to the prime Umbrella facility in Northern Russia, where she remained in a cell until Ada Wong was able to free her. Dressing, Alice makes her way through the Tokyo simulator, dealing with the zombies as a result and later, finds herself in a control room, with several weapons. She briefly engages in a fight with Ada, who explains she no longer worked for Umbrella, nor did Wesker, who revealed himself on the screen, having survived the incident on the Arcadia. According to Wesker, the Red Queen took over the corporation and that he sent a team led by Leon S. Kennedy to provide extraction. After losing Wesker's signal, the pair enter the New York simulator, briefly engaging 2 axemen before killing them and making their way to Suburbia. Once there, they meet up with Becky, a clone survivor of the simulation and Alice's "daughter". Exiting the house, they are confronted by Jill and a taskforce, leading to a brief conflict, with Ada staying behind, not before giving Alice her grapple gun and glasses. They find themselves in the Moscow simulation, meeting a second clone of Rain Ocampo, who keeps Becky safe, while Alice goes to aid the Leon's team. Taking a car, she rescues the men, being chased by Las Plagas-infected Soviet zombies and massive licker. They are able to flee the creatures and reunite with Rain and Becky before making their way to the elevator. Once there, they attempt to flee, only for Barry to be injured by the surviving licker, capturing Becky and killing Rain. This leads Alice to save Becky on her own, while the others lay down cover fire, as the taskforce followed them.
Alice is able to engage the Licker and save Becky, but they end up in a clone assembly line, allowing Alice to kill the Licker with a belt of grenades, using Ada's grapple gun to escape with Becky. They meet up with Luther and Leon at the top of the compound and take a snow mobile out of there. On the way however, the vehicle capsizes due to a submarine surfacing through the ice. Jill exits the sub with Rain and a captured Ada, leading to a one on one fight between Alice and Jill, with Luther and Leon fighting a Las Plagas-infected Rain. During the fight with Jill, Alice is nearly beaten by her and killed by the moving treads on the capsized snowmobile, but Alice tears off the scarab from Jill's chest and destroys it, with Jill falling unconscious. Alice turns to Rain, who had killed Luther, with Leon on his own, so she opens fire on Rain, getting her attention. They engage in a fight, with Rain being the victor, nearly killing Alice. Despite this, Alice notices that the zombies from the facility were floating upwards beneath the ice. Jill regains consciousness and tosses Alice on her guns, leading her to fire at the ice beneath Rain, causing her to fall and become food for the zombies beneath. Alice passes out following this, awakening in the chopper with Becky and Jill at her side. The helicopter flies over a war-torn Washington D.C, where Alice meets with Wesker in the Oval office. In a dash of superhuman speed, Wesker injected Alice with the T-Virus, realizing the weapon they needed against the hordes of undead being her with her abilities. Promising to kill Wesker for this, he explains that the Red Queen was determined to destroy all remaining life on Earth and that this was humanity's last stand. She witnesses that outside the perimeter of the White House, are hordes of zombies, lickers and other beasts engaging the perimeter guards, with guns constantly going off.
Return to Raccoon City & The Hive[]
Wesker betrayed the entirety of the settlement at the White House, leading to the deaths of multiple people and believed to have killed Alice as well. Little did he know however, that Alice in fact, survived the incident and was now hell-bent on revenge. While in the ruins of one of the control rooms, the Red Queen contacts Alice, explaining that she needs her to stop an attack on what remains of humanity that resides on the undead-infested service and she needs the airborne anti-virus to stop the undead. With only 48 hours, Alice makes her way to Raccoon City, but is ambushed and escapes, however captured by Alexander Isaacs, who realizes she is aware of the antivirus, leading her to be dragged out of a heavily armed Umbrella tank, with a horde of zombies at her back, however is able to not only escape, but also steal a bike and make her way to Raccoon City, evading an attack from the pursuing tanks. She makes her way to a building, where she notices a mirror from the top of a nearby building, causing her to crash into a defense and knocking her out. She awakens in the base of survivors, where she reunites with Claire Redfield, who had been captured and taken to the Hive, only to escape and crash land in the ruins of Raccoon City instead. With some time to spare, the survivors are warned by Alice that Isaacs has a horde of undead following him and they need to prepare. They do so with a makeshift catapult and what weapons they have to spare. The zombies attempt to attack the base, only to meet heavy resistance by the survivors, but also sustaining casualties of their own. Alice makes her way to the tank and douses the inside with gasoline, setting the crew inside ablaze, except for Isaacs, who fled out an escape hatch. Alice engages a surviving Umbrella soldier, using him as bait to lead any remaining zombies away from them, while they head for the Hive. The group find themselves chased by a pack of Cerberus, leading them to head into the Hive, losing a couple of people along the way. They make it in, but find themselves facing a number of other hazards, including other B.O.Ws. Despite this,
Alice reunites with Doc, Claire's lover, leading both to head for the bottom of the facility, finding Umbrella's High Command and even meeting the true Alexander Isaacs, alongside Albert Wesker and even Alice's genetic template, Alicia Marcus. It's here that Alice learns she is in fact a clone of Alicia, but Alicia disagrees, stating she is so much more. She then terminates Wesker's employment with the company, who appeared prior with Claire at gunpoint. His termination, led to Wesker being subdued beneath a door and Doc, who revealed himself to be Umbrella's mole, is killed by Claire herself. Alice and Claire then go after Isaacs, who they are able to fight, but Alice is the only one left standing against him. While she loses 3 of her fingers in a fight with him, she is able to damage him with a grenade to the abdomen. Alice steals the Antivirus from Isaacs and heads outside with it, about to drop it outside, only for Isaacs' cybernetics to catch the vial of the antivirus beforehand. Just before all was lost, the clone of Isaacs Alice encountered prior, finds himself attack his genetic template, allowing Alice to obtain the antivirus and drop it, killing every single T-Virus infected creature in the area, including herself.
A New Beginning[]
The following morning, Alice awakens to Claire Redfield, leading her to seek answers from the Red Queen. The AI reveals that she and Alicia had to lie to Alice about her survival, as only the T-Virus in her body was killed and not her healthy cells. The Red Queen also shows Alice all of the memories of Alicia, who died following the destruction of the Hive. Despite everything she has done however, Alice's work is still not yet done and it may take years before the antivirus reaches every single corner of the Earth.
Characteristics[]
Physical Appearance[]
Alice is a Caucasian female, standing at 5' 8" tall. She has blue hairs and initially had blonde hair, however in later installments of the film however, it was clearly revealed that Alice's hair color is really brown. This is highly possible that she was always brown haired, but dyed her hair. She has an athletic build for a woman of her age and as the franchise continued, has clearly showed signs of aging. Her wardrobe varies from film to film, from a dress in the original, to more tactical armor in later films.
Personality & Traits[]
Since the very beginning, Alice believed in the Umbrella Corporation's goals, despite being employed by them. She possesses a very strong desire to take down the corporation, though whether this is of her own will or apart of Alicia's initial desire however, remains inconclusive. Regardless, Alice also desires to aid others against the increasing threat of her former employers, even with humanity on the brink of extinction. Alice also proved that she was willing to perform the ultimate sacrifice, despite it only costing her the T-Virus in her body.
Powers & Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Viral-Enhanced Physiology: After being experimented upon by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice found herself possessing the positive effects of the T-Virus and none that made her a zombie. She maintained these powers from Resident Evil: Apocalypse, until Resident Evil: Afterlife. By the latter film, her powers are stripped from her by Albert Wesker, who injected her with a serum, completely eradicating any trace of the virus in her body, leaving her powerless. By Resident Evil: Retribution and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter however, Wesker restores her powers seemingly at the end of the former film. In the latter film however, she possesses none of the powers she had prior. Aside from that, her powers were as followed:
- Enhanced Strength: Alice was able to easily overpower zombies with little effort on her part. This ability was vital in her fight against other B.O.Ws, like Nemesis and even a mutated Isaacs. While it's not known as to how strong she really is, it was shown that Alice is easily strong enough to kill a normal human with little effort as well.
- Enhanced Speed: Alice was able to easily move at speeds faster than a normal human and could counter a horde of zombies, as well as Lickers with mere seconds. While it's unknown as to how fast Alice truly is, she is clearly fast enough to kill a zombified dog.
- Enhanced Durability: While against various enemies, Alice was able to withstand otherwise fatal attacks from B.O.Ws like Nemesis and even Isaacs. She could even withstand being tased and be able to remain upright afterwards.
- Enhanced Leap: During her fight with Nemesis, Alice was easily able to clear a height of at least 15-20 ft, landing on the roof of a police car with no damage to either herself or the car beneath her, unlike Nemesis.
- Accelerated Healing: Should Alice sustain injury, she is capable of rapid regeneration of her body. It's unknown as to how powerful her healing is however, as it hasn't been explored too much in the films.
- Enhanced Stamina: Alice is able to last longer in combat without succumbing to fatigue, unlike a typical human.
- Telekinesis: An ability she didn't exploit until the final scene of Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Alice was able to easily kill a guard, causing blood to bleed from any of his facial orifices. She was also able to manipulate fire from a flame thrower in Resident Evil: Extinction, to burn T-Virus infected crows, but this caused her to fall due to the strain on her body. As she began to use this ability further, she was able to easily overcome such fatigue, such as when she engaged an infected Isaacs in the Nevada facility. She also wielded this power in the beginning of Resident Evil: Afterlife.
- Enhanced Senses: Alice was able to detect various infected and non-infected individuals. This also includes other B.O.Ws aside from zombies.
Abilities[]
- Peek Physical Condition: Even after having lost her powers thanks to Wesker, Alice is still easily a very dangerous combatant. As a fighter, her body is in the most peek as humanly possible for a woman of her age and skill.
- Weapons Expert: As a former member of Umbrella's security, Alice has a vast knowledge in the use of various weapons, such as melee weapons like swords and knives, as well as the use of ranged weapons like pistols, shotguns, smgs, etc.
- Aviation: Alice is trained in the art of flying various aircraft, such as helicopters and even planes of various types.
- Perception: Alice demonstrated to have a very good form of perception, even in her peripheral vision.
Weaknesses[]
- Serum: In her first in-person encounter with Wesker, he injected her with a serum specifically designed to kill off every single T-Virus cell in her body. This stripped her entirely of her abilities, making her human as a result.
Trivia[]
- Alice is portrayed by Ukrainian-born American actress and former fashion model Milla Jovovich, who is married to the Resident Evil film director, Paul W.S. Anderson, whom she married in 2009. This is her 3rd marriage, with the previous marriages being with Shawn Andrews in 1992 and Luc Besson from 1997--1999. Jovovich is famous for her role as Leeloo in the 1997 blockbuster, The Fifth Element.
